Custom made Warplock Jezzails (conversions + little explanation on How to do them)

First of all I want to wish you a Happy New Year.

Now about the Warplock Jezzails, they are something that my brother and I did a really longtime ago, that's one of the reasons that in most of the pictures appears "Sir B" instead of Sir Skofis.

Mek Shop (Ork Scenery)

Merry Chriztmaz!!

In this post I want to show you the Warhammer 40000 ork building that my brother and I have recently made. It is the Mek Shop for our Ork Mek, it is going to be a central scenery piece in most of our games and it is possible to use it as a Bastion.

How to Make molds with Oyumaru + Resin Casting Parts

Note: To read about 2 part silicone rubber molds look at this post:

A visitor from my Spanish Blog (Lady Vengeance) ask me how I did the resin copies of my Warhammer Lizardmen Kroxigor using Oyumaru.

First of all is that I don't want anybody to do something illegal with this tutorial. I'm just showing how I copy some of my original miniatures and I encourage you to only do the same thing.

This method is specially useful for small size pieces that we want to copy a small number of times, ranging from one to ten for example. If you want to make more copies or a copy of something big or really detailed I recommend to use other material for the molds, for example silicone rubber.

Dogs of War Heavy and Light Cavalry (Conversions)

Cadet sons of nobles from Bretonnia, the Empire and Tilea form
the shock cavalry of most mercenary armies. Kislevite Winged
Lancers are sometimes employed and are much renowned for
their swift manoeuvres.

Scouting ahead of the army, harrying the enemy supply line,
attacking vulnerable war machines and engaging the flanks of
the enemy line are but a few of the roles performed by these
precious troops. Riders from Araby or from the steppes of Kislev
are the best choice available to mercenary captains.
Well this is going to be the last entry of our Dogs of War units for a while. This time I want to show you two cavalry units, for the moment they aren't painted.

Our Dogs of War army has a 3th cavalry unit that is a conversion that we made to represent Voland Venators. It was one of our earliest conversions and it was in a pretty bad shape so right now is being stripped out and it would be upgraded hopefully in the near future.

Heavy Cavalry: I didn't want to use knights from Bretonnia or The Empire directly I wanted to have a more customize unit and I came with the idea of trying to do a Wealthy Marauders Knights. This marauders have fought for the different Merchant Princes accumulating wealth and buying better equipment to guarantee their survival.

I used knights from The Empire with marauders heads and shields. I also try to made some fur capes to show that they come from the north with putty. I personally don't like too much how they look, I like the idea but force myself to finish the unit and didn't get the result that I wanted. I think I'll probably change them or upgrade them.

Blood Bowl Minotaur: Resin Copies made (repairs pending) + Miniature Assembly

I've spent this weekend making lots of resin copies of different things but mostly from the minotaur so I could send the copies to the persons that were interested in having a copy as soon as possible.

I wasn't certain that I could make all the copies in just one weekend but I've managed it. Now I have to take each piece look at it carefully and repair any defect that it has or reject the piece and made a new one if its quality is not good enough or if it has a large number of defects.

In the left side of the picture above you can see what is going to be send, the minotaur in pieces, the base and two footballs one with base and one without it. The logistic reason behind the two kinds of footballs is that I could make two at the same time that I make the minotaur. Both footballs are copies of the footballs I made so they aren't perfect or symmetric or anything, they just look right from a distance, not in a close inspection. The footballs are a gift but if someone doesn't want them because they are just going to throw them away please tell me before hand, because it has no sense sending things that are useless. Also if someone will rather have two based footballs or two footballs without base please let me know and we'll see what can be done.

The minotaur is in 5 pieces that fit well together and should not cause any issue in the assembly, except maybe the tail. In the right part of the picture above you can see how the Minotaur looks like once it is assembled.

Colonel "Iron Hand" Straken. Cadian version

This is the miniature that I summit to the conversion competition of the second half of the year of the Spanish Forum Warhammer AquĂ.

I didn't really need a Colonel Straken for mi Imperial Guard Army as I don't usually use unique characters but a serious of reasons got me doing this conversion. The first reason was that I was short of time for the competition and I needed something that I could finish quickly so searching in my half finished projects box I found the Imperial Guard Company Commander that I had start converting in February.

Finding this commander got me thinking that I had to made some shotguns for one of my Veteran Squads and I started searching the Internet for shotgun conversions and I found the post below:
http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com.es/2012/07/iron-hand-straken-conversion-with.html

That shotgun simply blow me away and I needed at least one in my army, the problem was that it needed a lot of pieces, between them a flamer each one so I couldn't use it in my Veteran Squad. So following a really strange reasoning I end up doing a version of the Colonel "Iron Hand" Straken even if I would probably not use it as that.

Dogs of War Cannons

We have two cannons in our Warhammer Fantasy Dogs of War Army, both of them from The Empire Army, an old metal one and a "new" plastic one (6th edition plastic cannon). Both of them have are second hand bought miniatures as most of the miniatures of our Dogs of War Army.

Dwarf Miners

My brother is spending a lot of time merging his Dwarfs Armies. His initial idea was to have two dwarf clans sharing the battlefield against a common foe, but at the end he really don't like the idea of having half of his army with some colors and the other half with others so he is stripping the paint from at least one half and painting them again using the other scheme of colors. He also has time to paint some orks of our common army so I'm pretty please as I can latter use a painted army that in the battlefield tends to look way better.

The last unit that he has strip and paint is his unit of Dwarf Miners. In the picture below you can see how this unit looked like before the stripping and painting process.

Dogs of War Pikemen (conversions)

Pikes are the infantry weapon of choice in Tilea. Twice as long
as a normal spear and longer than a cavalryman’s lance, the
front of a unit of pikes is an impenetrable wall of steel.
The pikemen is the most typical unit of the Dogs of War and is capable of resisting a cavalry charge and fight well against other infantries.

Initially, we though of making our Dogs of War army using miniatures that we didn't need in our other armies and like that we put together our first pikemen unit. In the unit we put every extra miniature from the rest of our warhammer fantasy armies, changing their weapons to pikes make by enlarging spears using the shafts of other spears or of some of the standard bearers arms. The result was a rather ugly unit but it was the first unit of our army even if now we have dismantled it.

We have use or reserve the miniatures of the unit once we have dismantled it. For example we are thinking of making a Blood Bowl team with the dark elfs.

We also used a dwarf that cannot be seen in the unit as it is a dwarf and is in the 4th row to make one of the dwarf blood bowl team runners. This particular 5th edition dwarf had loosed his head and arms and there were replaced with 6th edition dwarf bits a pretty hideous conversion. To make the runner we unglue the head and arms and make new ones with some putty.

Blood Bowl Minotaur Finished (searching people interested in buying a resin copy)

EDITED
There have been 18 persons interested in having a copy: 13 from Spain and 5 from the rest of the world.
The final price for the copies is 4,00€.
I already have made half of the casting mold, and I hope to make the other half tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
Hello there!
You may remember this post where I explained that my brother was trying to make a Minotaur for Blood Bowl but he had some troubles with the head and I made one for him. Well, keeping with his word, he has continue working on it until it was finished.

Homemade Orcs & Goblins Doom Diver Catapult (scratch building)

My brother and I made this Doom Diver Catapult a really long time ago. The Orcs & Goblins were one of our first Warhammer Fantasy Armies and we bought a lot of metal miniatures like two goblin chariots, 3 goblins spear chukkas, a Wyvern, Giant and a goblin rock lobber. Nonetheless we decided to make our own Doom Diver Catapult using balsa wood and Green Stuff.

Dogs of War Duellist

Small units of lightly armed skirmishers are normally employed
to protect the flanks of pike-armed units

In this entry I want to show you another two of our Warhammer Fantasy Dogs of War units. In the picture above you can see half of each unit as we painted first one half of each and then the other, it turns out that wasn't a great idea =)

To make the Duellist we used the Empire Free Company box set. We made 8 swordsmen (matasietes) duellist and 8 pirate duellist. We armed a few of the pirates ones with pistols in case we wanted to use them equipped like that but in general they are equipped with two hand weapons. Given the options of the Empire Free Company box we didn't have to make any conversion as the miniatures where just what we needed for this units.

Blood Bowl Chaos Warrior Finished and Painted

Some of you will remember this previous post where I explained my intentions to make a few chaos warriors. Well some time ago I manage to finish the first one and start making resin copies in case any one was interested in them.

For the moment I just selling copies in Spain until I have a few more things to sell. If someone is interested before I officially open my online store he could contact me in my e-mail: lord-skofis(a)hotmail.com

I hope to have the other three warriors and some optional mutations bits to personalize the models ready for the beginning of next year.

Dogs of War Crossbowmen (conversions)

The bulk of the missile troops in a Dogs of War army are formed
by crossbowmen from Tilea, Estalia and the Border Princes.

In this entry I want to show you two more units of our Warhammer Fantasy Dogs of War Army, our Crossbowmen.

Necron CrypTeks (conversion based in Necron Warriors)

My brother has made two Crypteks for his Warhammer 40000 Necron Army converting a couple of plastic Necron Warriors. In my opinion he has got a good result but they maybe lack a little more details.

Lizardmen Kroxigor from scratch

At the beginning of this year I tried to make a Kroxigor model to use with my Warhammer Fantasy lizardmen army, then make copies to have 3 kroxigors and latter change the green into a Blood Bowl player. For the moment I just have the Warhammer version as I really have troubles with the Blood Bowl one.

Ruins II for Warhammer Fantasy/Mordheim

This is the cheap version of the Ruins I as I also made a cheaper version of the House.

The process is quite similar to the one explained in the tutorial of the cheaper version of the house, but in this case I only used cardboard, I didn't use balsa wood at all. This ruined building is ideal to use in Warhammer Fantasy games or in Mordheim.

Sorry I'm busy

On top of every unfinish project that I have in my working table I'm currently preparing a couple of miniatures for two online competitions of a Spanish Forum and the deadline is coming soon so I don't have a lot of time to post in the blog.

For the moment I leave you with a couple of pics of my finished Blood Bowl Chaos Warrior. In a few days I will post more about it.

Alien dessert Jungle II. Terrain for Warhammer 40000

Sometime ago I show you the Alien Jungle that we have made for our Warhammer 40000 games. In this entry I want to show you another jungle bases that I recently made.

In this case I glued in tree cardboard bases with some straight borders more or less the same quantity of plants that in the two Cds. In this way it is possible to put the three bases making a clear in the middle of them that it's quite useful in the games to explain that a unit is inside the jungle.

What we made with one of the tied up dwarfs slayers of The Battle for the Skull Pass Boxed Game

I made this entry to show you how we converted the tied up Dwarf Slayer from The Battle for the Skull Pass Boxed Game. We have a couple of them and weren't using them for anything and the face in not bad so we make a new body for him and converted into one of the Dwarf Slayers of my brother's Dwarf Blood Bowl Team.

Firstly we cut the head from the original body. Then we made a body using the metal Dwarf Slayers of WFB as models (in the pictures of the top center and top left side you can partially see one of those slayers as the model is place on top of it).

Dwarf Mine

This is one of the first scenery pieces that my brother and I made. We made a few before this one, a couple of orc huts and some polystyrene hills.
As you can see this piece represents the entry to a Dwarf mine understanding dwarf mine like and underground fortress.

How to make a Necron Doomsday Ark (cardboard Scracth Building)

First of all I want to say that I don't have an original set of a Necron Ark so I'm not sure if the dimensions of the Arks that we have made and the ones that are in the blue prints are 100% accurate. To obtain the dimensions we measure and image of the sprues and scale that with the outer dimensions of the sprue that has the same dimensions as other models that we have. Secondly, I will like to highlight that with this tutorial we don't want to copy the original model, we just want to make a representation of it and in that spirit there are several details that this model lacks and the original model has.

This tutorial shows how to make the Doomsday Ark. With the blueprints it is also possible to make the Ghost Ark, you just have to join the "ribs" to the bottom part and don't make the cannon.

Skaven Warlord atop War-Litter (conversion)

Almost every character in my brothers WFB Skaven army is a converted model. One of my favourites is this Warlord on War-litter. The model is full of little amusing details. The first one is the way the Warlord is carried on top of a shield like if he were copying a Dwarf lord carried on a shield by his shieldbearers.

How to make Sandbag walls for Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons

Long time ago I wrote a step by step on how to make Sandbag walls to use with the imperial guard heavy weapons for a Spanish electronic magazine. Today I bring it to you translated.

The original idea was to build more than one heavy weapon with each Imperial Guard Heavy weapon set. Doing it by building a sandbag wall seemed just right as it is possible to imagine that the soldiers during the battle preparation have make a sandbag wall where they can put a heavy weapon and get some cover while they are firing it.

Imperial Guard Company Commander and Commissar from scratch

In this entry I want to show you two models that I have made almost from scratch for my Warhammer 40000 Imperial Guard Army. The Company commander was made before the commissar and it is a little small if you compare it with a imperial guard model, while the commissar is just the right size.

My Brother's WFB Wood Elf Army

This entry is to show you my brother's Warhammer Fantasy Battles Wood Elf Army. I'm not sure how many points he has but more than enough to play 2000 points games. The miniatures of his army are from the 5th and 6th Edition wood elf range. He also has a Dragon but he never used and it is poorly painted. This army also includes a few conversions and some miniatures make by us from scratch.

Step by Step: sculpting my first attempt of Chaos Warrior

I've been trying to make my own chaos warrior blood bowl players for quite a while. Right now I have my first warrior finish and I'm in the process of making some resin copies of him. You have seen pictures of it during the modelling process here and here.

I've to tell you that the version that you can see in those image is the 4th one. The first 3 versions didn't make it pass the legs. The first version was the one that use to make the How to make chainmail with putty tutorial.

Mattias Darrow ask me if I could show how I make the legs in another tutorial but that is quite tiresome for me so instead I'm going to show you the pictures step by step. At the end, with two or three techniques you can make anything with putty or green stuff and I've already explain all the techniques that I used in other tutorials.

In the 1st version of the Chaos Warrior I started doing the feet and latter building the armature for the legs and the lower body with pieces of sprue on top of them. (the picture showing how I made the feet is actually from the second version but I didn't have one of the first and they were quite similar).

Group pics of our Space Marine, Ork and Necron armies

A visitor from my Spanish blog ask me for a group shot of all the Orks that I have. So, as I was already on it I decided to also take a shot of our Space Marine and Necron Armies. I would have taken one of our Imperial Guard Army but I was tired of taking out and putting back into a box so many miniatures.

Cardboard scratch built Ork Deff Dread

This dread was done in a simillar way to our scratch build Killa Kans, but at a bigger scale. We don't usually play with an ork dread in our rosters but is always nice to have options.

Tutorial: How to use Green Stuff / From WFB Skin to Blood Bowl Player

In this Step By Step Tutorial I try to explain how to use Green Stuff (GS from now on) to do conversions of around 28mm miniatures, to do that I use the example of a Warhammer Fantasy Lizarmen Skin that I convert into a Blood Bowl Skin player.

You can enlarge the images of this tutorial by clicking on them.

Introduction

I'm going to work with GS that probably is the most known modelling putty, maybe because Games Workshop sells it. In my case I use Sylmasta's GS DURO, this putty has two components a blue one and a yellow one. The GS is sold in different formats, I normally use the reel version but is also available in stick format as it can be seen in the picture below.

Crater due to an explosion

 Dessert Terrain Week

This piece of terrain is another crater is the second one that I made and is a little more detailed than the first one but quite easy to make still. I tried to represent that the blast of an explosion have left some bare rock when it has impel some of the earth that were where the bomb have explode, it also have some pieces of rock fragmented during the explosion. I know it isn't too realistic but it is easy to make.
