How to convert a free company man into a Human Blood Bowl Thrower Part (I)

I made this tutorial because a member of one of the forums that I usually visit ask me to.

The request was quite specific, he wanted me to explain how would I do the armour plates and other armour parts of the human thrower that appears in the wallpapers of the game Blood Bowl II. I only had a couple of shoots so I done the best I could with the little information at my disposition.
Pictures obtained from the Blood Bowl game website
Even if I only had to explain how to make the armour plates I decided to try to make a miniature with the stand shown in the left part of the picture above, well a mirror image of it. You can see the result of this tutorial in the picture below (the colour scheme is the one of our Human BB team).

This first part of the tutorial explains how I made the legs, and the body armour.
In the second part, I will show how to make the rest of the armour, the muscles of the arms and the helmet.

Cardboard made Stormraven Gunship: almost finished

A couple of weeks ago, I post a few pictures of the wing of a new Warhammer 40000 vehicle that my brother was making. The vehicle is in fact a Stormraven Gunship and in this post you will the progress that my brother has made in it.

The model is almost finished, the only thing that is missing is the guns, and the rivets. My brother has design the model so it breaks into 4 parts: fuselage, left wing, right wing and tail cone with tail planes. In the pictures below you can see more or less those parts. The parts attach each other with magnets in the case of the wings and inserting a flat piece into a slot in the case of the tail cone.

Skaven Warlord mounting a Rat Ogre Bonebreaker

In another post I showed my brothers Skaven Warlord atop of a War-Litter, in this one I'm going to show to you his other Warlord that is mounted in a Rat Ogre Bonebreaker.

Is a conversion using the rat ogre from the plastic screaming bell, the legs of the screaming bell grey seer and other bits from the plague monks and the night runners.

New cardboard vehicle project

Lately my brother is in a non-stop mode he finishes a project and starts with a new one. Recently he has started to build a new cardboard vehicle for one of our Warhammer 40000 armies. In the picture below you can see a piece of it, any guess about what vehicle it is?

The piece is not finished yet, it needs a little more detailing. My brother has added to the piece a few magnets so the vehicle is easier to store and carry.

Bretonnian Battle Standard Bearer: conversion evolution through time

The Battle Standard Bearer conversion for my Warhammer Fantasy Bretonnian Army is something that was unfinished for quite along time. It has been finished but not for too long as a little after I usually decided that something should be changed and changed it. The last changes were the arms and the banner and the only thing that I had left for quite a while was only to paint them, but instead of doing that I decided to strip the model and change the colors used for the ones that I really want my bretonnian army to have in the future. Below you can see the result of the finally finished model.

The bretonnian players must have a Battle Standard Bearer, and the miniature has an important role in the army so its better if it looks nice.

My first attempt of a conversion of a Battle Standard Bearer was made at the end of the year 2006. At that time I was obsessed with making the model with a frontal banner and I even bought a Black Tree knight command group on foot that I liked quite cheap.

Our Ogre Kingdoms Warhammer Fantasy Army

Above you can see our Ogre Kingdoms miniatures that we have painted. People that know the current state of the rules for this army will miss a few units with really big miniatures but be still are using the rules that where released during the 6th edition of WFB.

My brother and I loved the idea of having an army of bruthis ogres from the get go and we make a big purchase directly when GW released them. In 6th edition they also had the Dogs of War rule that allowed as to use them with our Dogs of War army. Additionally and this was somewhat important it was easier to paint them as they where big and only a handful of miniatures. The first time that we painted the army we do it more or lest 50-50 between my brother and I but the models that you will see in this post is the second version and they have been painted by my brother only.

To complete the army we also have a few gnoblars that we haven't painted yet and a Hunter with two Sabretusk that hasn't yet be repainted.

Warhammer 40000 Imperial Bastion made with Cardboard

At the beginnings of this year 2014 my brother started to made an Imperial Bastion using cardboard as the principal material. When he finished building it I painted it "concrete" grey with an airbrush and it was left like that for a lot of time, until last weekend my brother decided to add a little more color to it and added a few metallic parts and painted the door with yellow and black stripes.
My brother used to build the bastion mostly cardboard but also masking tape and he give it texture using a mix of sand, plaster, PVA and water.

How to make a two part silicone rubber mold

Note: To read about Oyumary molds or Resin Casting look at this post:

First of all, you can probably find lots of tutorials like this on the Internet that are better explained as I'm not a native English speaker. Nonetheless, I pick up a few tricks with my experience that can be useful.

Another clarification before I started describing the process is that I try to use the least silicone that I can, as it is a quite expensive product and my economy it's what it is.

In this tutorial I gonna show how I obtained the mold shown in the picture below.

Dragon Teeth, plaster made tank traps for Warhammer 40000

One of the last pieces that I have added to my scenery and terrain elements collection is some tank traps. Basically concrete blocks to slow or block the enemy tanks movement.

I made them with plaster and then sculpted some details. In the picture above they are just placed on top of two bases, not glued, so you can have and idea of how can they look above the terrain.

I painted them with a brush and they have for different shades of colors.

Killa Lanz contribution from DeLeagant

Sometime ago I asked a reader of my Spanish blog, DeLeagant, to send me some pictures of his Killa Kanz. In his words the tutorial made by my brother and I showing our cardboard ork Killa Kans have encouraged him to make his own Killa Kanz. I haven't translated our tutorial but is someone is really interested I can try it.

Slann Mage-Priest from scratch finished

In the previous post I show the WIP of the Slann Mage-Priest that my brother was making for me. The work was almost done but lacked a few finish touches.

Here you have the final result. The vegetation and the lizards were my doing and my small contribution to the project.

Below you can see some pictures of the whole model, but not glued yet to the base (click to enlarge the pictures).

Flash Gitz: Conversions using Ork Nobz

Another project that my brother has been working on lately is the conversion of a few second-hand Ork Nobz into Flash Gitz. Flash Gitz ar zo kool.

As the models were second-hand ones they have a few bits missing and others broken. The idea was to give them a little pirate look, to that purpose my brother has sculpt on all of them some raincoats and I sculpt a few pirate hats. To make the Snazzguns using pieces from different gunsnot always ork ones.

WIP Yhetee for Blood Bowl: Part 2

This is the second post about the Yhetee. I've made the face and add some patches of hair even if I need to add a lot more hair to the model. I also add a couple of pieces of wire as the armature for the arms.

I'm not really loving the head, and I think I will end up changing it somehow but for the moment it stays, until I do some more work in the rest of the model, specially in the arms.

WIP Beastmen for Blood Bowl: Part 1

To complete my Blood Bowl Chaos Team I need to make a few Beastmen so they could go along the Chaos Warriors and the Minotuaur that you have already seen.

At first I was thinking in converting a few warhammer beastmen miniatures but lot of people have ask me if I intended to make my own beastmen models also so I finished trying to do them, even if I'm not sure yet what I'm going to get.

For the moment I've start working in 4 different legs for the beastmen, one for a stand still model, one standing still but with one leg a little forward than the other, one running/blitzing and one kicking (the ball or another player). Two of them are in their earlier stages while another two are quite advanced one of the been almost finished.

WIP Yhetee for Blood Bowl: Part 1

Lately I've been working on a couple of new things while I'm improving the Krox for Blood Bowl. One of these new things is a Yhetee for a Blood Bowl Norse Team.

To make the model I started with a cooper wire armature. Then I added some volume with a mix of A+B white modelling putty and Green Stuff. Now I'm adding more volume and giving the final shape to the model with GS. In the future, when the shape is finished I will add some details with GS.

More Damaged Walls

I was told that the plaster texture in the two walls that I have already shown (wall 1 and wall 2) wasn't realistic enough so I've tried a new sand based texture.

Some re-painted Dwarfs from my brother's Army

Hello again!

I've already show some Warhammer Fantasy Dwarfs painted by my brother but they weren't from his own army they were dwarfs from a friends army that is in our hands for an undetermined period.

In this post you can see dwarfs from his own army. He insist that they are two separated armies even if the color scheme of both of them is the same.

Dogs of War: Mercenary General (Conversion evolution)

Now I want to show you the Mercenary General of my brothers and mine Warhammer Fantasy Dogs of War army. This character is almost as important as the Paymaster in a Dogs of War army, as the lads need someone to lead them even if their motivation is locked down under a key inside the Paymaster Chest.

I call our General "Alonso El Valeroso" (Alonso the Brave) and as other of our miniatures this one has also evolve during its existence. Below you can see the uptodate version.

Blood Bowl Minotaur Painted

In this post I like to show how one copy of our Blood Bowl  Minotaur looks like after I've painted it.

Usually, my brother is the one that end up painting our miniatures. However, in this occasion it was me the one that painted it even if it was my brother who did most of the sculpting.

It has been a while since I wanted to paint this model, but until next weekend I never got around to do it. I would probably have wait even longer to paint it if I hadn't say I will participate in a Conversion & Paint competition of a Spanish forum. Seeing the deadline really getting close was what got me going, even if I finally not going to present this miniature to the competition.

Imperial Guard Defensive position made with cardboard

A long time ago in one of the Games Workshop website version they use to post tutorials in how to make your onw scenery and terrain elements for free among other really interesting stuff that with time has disapaired and been forgotten. One of those tutorials was the one that I have followed to make the defensive position that you can see below for my Warhammer 40000 Imperial Guard Army.

Step by step: sculpting some legs with putty

Before I end up with the design of my fantasy football chaos warriors, I tried to do other warriors with other designs that I never finished because they weren't what I was searching. This tutorial show how I made the legs for one of these fail attempts.

You may already know some of the pictures as they are the same that I used to explain how I sculpt chainmail in an earlier tutorial.

I started to sculpt the legs making the feet (truth be told the feet of the picture below are from another attempt but they are quite similar)

My Night Goblins army

Well after in this hobby buying a few 5th edition bretonnian miniatures, I end up collecting a few goblins to make together with my brother a big orcs and goblins army. Later on, with the 7th edition battle for the skull pass game box, I manage to create an all or almost night goblin army.

You can see more or less in the picture above that this night goblin army is composed from around 150 miniatures, and what is most impressive is that I manage to paint them even if the paint job is quite bad. I also have more goblins but they aren't night goblins so I'm not showing them to you right now.

Warhammer Fantasy/Mordheim Imperial Town: Group pics

I have already posted some individual shots of every building and terrain element that compose our small imperial town. If we had continued playing Mordheim we will surely had built more buildings but as we didn't we have already plenty of elements to play a normal Warhammer Fantasy game.

In this pictures you can see all the buildings forming what could be a town square with the temple and the Town hall along other wealthy houses. I also add a few miniatures of our Skaven and Dogs of War armies in blocks and skirmish formation as if they were fighting for the control of the town.

Bretonnian Questing Knights (Conversions)

Long time ago, a little after the release of the 6th edition of the Warhammer Fantasy Bretonnian Army, I converted 5 plastic Knights of the Realm into Questing Knights. They aren't my finest work but at the moment they seemed quite ok. To convert the knight I used some plastic bits from the grey knights of the empire, the 6th edition dwarf warriors, the free companies from the empire and I also used the metal banner from the vampire counts grave guard command group. To hold everything together and make some extra details I used some green stuff. I also sculpted a small guitar with green stuff that I putted in the back of the musician.

My brother Warhammer 40000 Necron Army

No so long ago my brother finished painting almost every Warhammer 40000 necron miniature that he has, maybe he hasn't paint yet one or two necron Canoptek Scarabs.

To finish with this army he had two paint in a short period of time something like 2 Canoptek Scarab bases, 5 Flayed ones, 5 Necron Immortals, 3 Necron Destroyers and a Catacomb Command Barge. In top of that he decided to change the main color of their bases, so instead of been a grey one like he originally intended he paint and repaint all of the bases with a brown shade so this army will have a similar base color than our other armies.

In the pictures below you can see all of the miniatures and vehicles in his army
(Click in the pictures to enlarge them)

Skaven custom made Ratling Guns (conversions)

My brother have made quite a few conversions in his Warhammer Fantasy Skaven army, I have already post some of them. He made most of the conversions thinking to play with the 6th edition rules and in that moment ratling guns where quite devastating. He made four of them that later on with the 7th edition rules he stopped to use.

He made the ratling guns in two groups, first he made to and then he made another two changing the things that he didn't like in the first two. An example of this is the length of the barrels, in the first two one the barrels where shorter than in his mark II ratling guns.

To made them he used a wide variety of bits and green stuff and putty, for instance the barrels are made with the shafts of some spears.

Custom-made Snotlings Pump Wagons (Conversions)

A few time back my brother and I build 2 Snotling Pump Wagons for our Warhammer Fantasy Orcs & Goblins army. As a lot of units of the Orcs & goblins army the rules are not great but you can have quite fun playing with these "machines".

To make them we used the mining wagons that came in the 7th edition plastic dwarf miners box, to represent that they have been looted after a battle against those fat and repulsive dwarfs.

Fountain for our Warhammer Fantasy/Mordheim Imperial Town

Today I want to show you another one of our half ruined Warhammer Fantasy/Mordheim Imperial Town scenery pieces: a Fountain.

When my brother and I make this element we spent quite a few time think how to make a water effect without using the special mix that exists to do it. We try lots of things like applying thin layers of PVA Glue/White glue and let them dry before applying new ones but it didn't work as we expected. Finally we end up putting a piece of a transparent plastic sheet with a little layer of PVA glue to give some texture to the surface.

Tutorial: How to convert a Imperial Knight into a mounted Battle Standard Bearer Wight King

I made this tutorial a long time ago and published it in a Spanish forum electronic magazine. You can see the result of this tutorial in the picture below.

If you keep reading you will learn how I make my mounted Wight King carrying the Battle Standard for my Warhammer Vampire Counts army.

Lots of Spaces Marines painted

Today I want to show to you our Warhammer 40000 Space Marine Army, or at least the models that we have already painted. This army is one of the few that we are painting "slowly", meaning without using a quick painting technique and with several layers in each model to make the shades and the highlights.

Skaven Grey Seer (conversion)

My brother bought the Screaming bell/Plague Furnace set and build it as a Plague Furnace, so he had a couple of extra bits that he used to make a Warlord  on top of a Rat Ogre Bonebreaker and a Grey Seer on foot.

Ork Kommandos (conversions) and Burna Boyz

In this post I want to show you the Warhammer 40000 Ork Kommandos that my brother has converted and painted recently.

The Kommandos mobz are small groups of specialist in surprise attacks. Usually each member of the mob is specialized in a role and receive an appropriate nickname for it as "fireboy" or "throatslit".

My brother has tried to capture that spirit. To build the Kommandos he has used 4 ork boyz and lot and lots of spare bits from other models backpack from the Imperial Guards heavy weapons sprues, stikkbombs, ammo, etc). To hold the bits to the models he has use green stuff to simulate straps.

The Red Duke (Vampire Lord)

A few years ago when I decided to start my Warhammer Vampire Counts Army I bough the miniature of the Red Duke trough the online store without really knowing it was the Red Duke, just thinking it was a cool mounted  vampire miniature.

The Red Duke was once the most loyal and dedicated of the knights of Bretonnia, nonetheless he succumbed to the curse of vampirism during the Crusades of Araby. Without really knowing what was happening to him his most faithful servants carry him back to his castle while he was still only ill. Then he died and rise from the dead and started to terrorise his faithful servants that has take the time to carry him to his house and the rest of Bretonnia.

Some of you could have seen that I usually prefer to do my own conversions to use as my Warhammer characters, but this miniature really got my attention and I decided to buy it.

Bretonnian Errant Knights (Bretonnian Army Crazy Project) III: finished

This post continues with the previous one and it is the last one about this unit.

The Errant knights are finished, I applied to them the mix of varnish and Judea bitumen and finished the bases, then I added the pennants and the banner.

Bretonnian Errant Knights (Bretonnian Army Crazy Project) II

This post continues with the previous one.

In this post you can see the horses and their barding painted as well as the beginning of the knights. I decided to paint the horses first and then paint the legs of the knights and glue them to the horses to avoid interference between them. I'm painting the army using the quick painting technique that I know as "betuneado".

The painting process is quite simple, white primer, basecoat of the different colours and a mix of matt varnish and Judea bitumen to give a shadow effect and protect the miniature. The mix of varnish and Judea bitumen that I made for the horses was to dark and after it was dry I retouch them with the base colours, giving them a little highlight effect. The process is the same for the knights.

Bretonnian Errant Knights (Bretonnian Army Crazy Project) I

As I said in the previous post about my Bretonnian Project my first goal is to paint 9 Errant Knights, and this is the first post about this unit.

Truth be told I have almost finished the unit but I'm a little late with the updates of this blog. At first I though of making the unit mostly from 5th edition plastic bretonnian Knights of the Realm and with some bits from the 6th edition plastic knights. I've already bought the original 5th errant champion but latter I was able to procure myself with the standard bearer and with a music from the 5th edition questing knights that was a little damage and begging to become the errant knights musician. The standard bearer was also a little damage and I had to replace the metal pole with a plastic one. In the picture below you can see some of the additions that I made to my 5th edition bits collection, all of the were a package that also have quite a few damaged questing knights bodies.

Molds of the Chaos warrios and first miniatures casted

Hello again and sorry for not posting more regularly. I've been quite busy this last couple of weeks and translating post or posting in English is not as quick as doing it in my mother tongue.

After some problems with the first molds that I made of the chaos warriors and some wasted silicone and resin I decided to do them again spending more hours and waiting a couple of days more until they were ready to start casting. These new molds seems to work find and I've already made a few copies with them.

Below an Image of the molds
